Who we share your data with

Your data is stored on servers at our hosting provider Bluehost. You can see how they use the data here: https://www.bluehost.com/terms/user-agreement  in particular the section labeled Subscriber Content.  Be aware that if you click on that link you will be taken to a different site, bluehost.com, which has it’s own privacy policies https://www.bluehost.com/terms/privacy-policy

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

We regularly back up (copy) the website and all data onto a file server that is only available to us.  These backups are only accessed in situations where we have to recreate the website and its database. Because we do not know when that may occur, backup files are retained indefinitely.

Additional information

How we protect your data

Articles and comments are publicly viewable. Usernames and other account information are only visible to the account holder and system administrators, and only those people can change that data. Your password is stored in an encrypted form that cannot be decrypted. If you have an account on this website, you are responsible for keeping your login information private and for keeping other account information up-to-date. You may remove your account at any time.

Our databases can only be changed by site administrators. These databases are protected with strong passwords.

What data breach procedures we have in place

Most information in our database is viewable by browsing the website or is information used only by the WordPress software. Private information is in the accounts. Accounts are only required to have a username, email, nickname, and password. Passwords are encrypted. Personal names are optional. We strongly recommend that account holders only keep the minimum required information in their accounts so if there is a data breach, there is not much private information that can be found.

In the case that a data breach is detected, we will send an email to every account holder notifying them that a data breach has occurred. We will recommend that account holders login, change their passwords, and verify their data.
